About us

Hind & Michele. A couple, a van, and an idea that never let go.

We're a young couple from Turin, born in '97. We met at school back in 2014 and, over the years, we tried to travel as much as we could across Italy — first in a 1983 Lancia Delta, then in an iconic Fiat Uno Turbo.

It was during a road trip in Sardinia that we came across dozens of vans fitted out like proper tiny homes. We drove back to Turin with something different inside us.

In February 2020 that something woke up: “Shall we convert a van?” — “Yes, why not?”. A few days later we found our Ford Transit from 2000. We started the build right as the pandemic and lockdown arrived: between wood, sealant, cables and hard-to-find dust masks, we completed the conversion of the “Transittone”.

After a year of travelling we decided to sell our van and turn this passion into a real profession.

Van conversion is the process of modifying the interior, and sometimes the exterior, of a van to turn it into a liveable space. Services typically include thermal and acoustic insulation, interior layout design, the electrical system, plumbing for sinks or showers, custom-built furniture and any modifications needed to create a functional space to live or work in.
The cost varies widely depending on the extent of the modifications, the type of van and the quality of the materials used. Basic conversions can start from a few thousand euros, while larger projects with high-end finishes can exceed tens of thousands. It is always best to request a tailored quote based on your needs.
A gas-free camper has no gas bottles on board: the kitchen runs on induction hobs and hot water comes from a dedicated electric system. The result is greater safety, no bottles to refill and full energy autonomy thanks to batteries and solar power. It's the build philosophy behind every one of our vans.
Homologation is the step that legally turns a cargo van into a motorhome: it requires precise technical requirements and an inspection at the Italian vehicle authority. It's the question we get asked most often — which is why our book dedicates an entire section to the homologation process, step by step.
In most cases yes: cargo vans, camper vans and passenger vans. Ease of conversion and available space vary by make and model. Some vans offer more room thanks to their size and layout, while others have some limitations.
You don't need special skills to hire professionals, but it helps to have a clear idea of your needs. Some modifications, such as electrical or plumbing work, and especially vehicle homologation, may require authorised professionals and compliance with current regulations to ensure safety and conformity.
It depends on how many people will travel, how long you'll live on board and your budget: size, wheelbase, interior height and mechanical condition all matter. A well-organised DIY build usually takes several months of weekends and evenings: we completed our first van build, the Transittone, in a few months during lockdown. For a professional build, timing depends on the complexity of the project and the customisations required.
